Before the shooters went back to their hiding hole, Carlos Marcello called for one more meeting. It was at his 6,500 acre Churchill Farm estate outside of New Orleans. Attending were Marcello, Jack Ruby, Sam Giancana, and Santo Trafficante. Carlos Marcello had expressed his concerns to Jack Ruby proclaiming that his trial as an illegal alien was to began the next day and he wanted to make sure everything was in place for the Kennedy assassination.

Pappy had called in Dallas’ top defense attorney, Tom Howard. Howard had always been the
first choice to represent anyone connected with the Lansky syndicate in Dallas.
His slow-talking southern drawl sat well with Dallas County juries. He interview
Nita, the client, first. He normally did this in his office, but since the
arrest had occurred in her apartment and because he had a natural curiosity, he
decided to interview Candy Barr at home. He found her to be intelligent,
extremely gracious, and beautiful. He soon felt like he was probably the only
man in town that had not been to one of Candy Barr’s live performances.

Candy Barr relayed the events to him in and easy, understandable manner. As he
drove back to his office, Tom Howard realized the defense of entrapment fit her
case perfectly. He would have to convince a jury that had it not been for Helen
Smith, Acting under pressure from the law, Candy Barr would not have been in
possession of the Prince Albert can or the contents of the Alka-Seltzer bottle
which followed.

One of Candy’s best customers for scheduling stag parties was William O. Bankston. Now a Ford dealer in Dallas, he began his career in the automobile business alongside of Joe Weatherby in Brownwood Texas at Weatherby Motor Company. Bankston atended Howard Payne College in Brownwood before World War II where he gained local notoriety by winning a “tree siting” contest.

At the end of World War II the new car business was booming. Weather assisted Bankston in securing a Dallas Ford dealership. For the 1st 18 months, Bankston pre-sold cars which were yet to be produced. Life was good.

The “new car” companies always used sex in advertising their cars with prety girls opening car doors or displaying excitement while driving a new model. Bankston often sponsored stag parties for his male customers and politicians. He met Candy at the Colony Club and later at a stag party. She put on some super parties for Bankston. They became the best of friends.

I’ve been reflecting back on how the adult entertainment business has changed during my life time and I just wonder what Candy would think about where it’s gone today. Would she approve? Would she adapt?  Could she compete with the likes of Tube8, Xhamster, Red Tube, Youjizz, Spankwire, Xtube, Youporn, Slutload, and Porntube to stir up the same kind of excitement she did in the 60’s. A gentleman no longer has to go to a “Colony Club” in Dallas or an “El Rancho Club” in Las Vegas to view top quality adult entertainment. Huge quantities of it are available online on his personal PC or IPhone in the comfort of his own home without having to travel 100’s of miles to the nearest burlesque club. Having the timeless beauty that Candy Barr possessed until her death in 2007, I believe she would still be a favorite among the online porn queens of today.

During 3 weeks of preaching in Los Angeles in 1949, Billy Graham led over 3000 people down the aisle to obey the Gospel. Many famous people came over to hear him. All the way from Louis Zamperini, a 1936 Olympic champion to Mickey Cohen, the Mafia Chieftain of the West Coast and Las Vegas. Many were saved but Mickey never “walked the aisle” down to the front.

Mickey was amazed that Billy Graham never asked for money and he made it his business to arrange a personal meeting with the young evangelist. They had a rather long conversation about Graham’s Christ. In Mickey’s mind they became great friends and he started paying Graham’s electric bill. After that, Graham always visited Mickey when he was in the Los Angeles area and always sent Mickey birthday cards.
